Day 14: Wrapping up the roadtrip

Mon 9/21 @ 7:09 AM

So Philly was a marathon, Baltimore was a nice quiet relief, and DC was a great big party.  We’re on the road north, now, me and Alex and our friend Roj who met us in DC for complicated logistical reasons.  When we hit JFK, I’ll part ways and catch a plane until North Carolina.

The wisdom of mostly meeting up only every other day has become clear to me — Baltimore being a small, genial meetup at a neighborhood bar was close enough to a day off that it worked out well, but if it had been something big I might be just about destroyed by now.

I continue to really enjoy this trip.  I feel like I may be coming off my second wind, though, so we’ll see what my energy level is like in a few more days.

Lesson learned, too, with the roadtrip: two days in a city isn’t enough to see a city, but one day REALLY isn’t enough.  Philly we got a taste of, Baltimore we saw a park and a bar, DC we crawled through traffic on Mass Ave and waved at some embassies.  Not much of a getting-to-know-you setup, worth revising in any potential do-over.

Driving update: jesus fiddling fuck does New Jersey like its tolls.  And we’re sitting around making terrible, terrible Anne Frank jokes.  It’s good to be among friends.
